"This is a highly recommended excursion. We did it with a one-year-old baby, and he really enjoyed looking at the reflection of the sea floor. The crew was super kind and friendly."

Board at the Jetty
Glass-bottom hull, ~2 hours, the cliff coast unrolling — the seabed show starts before the cala does.
Anchor at Macarella
Swim stop in or beside the cala — the last metres are yours, mask optional but recommended.

Macarelleta and the cliffs from the water — the exact angle every postcard uses, because the photographers were on boats too.

Un solo dato reorganiza cualquier plan para Macarella: del 1 de junio al 30 de septiembre, aproximadamente, el camino está cerrado al coche particular. No “parking escaso” — cerrado.

"One of the best experiences we had in Menorca. We stayed at the Galdana Gardens Hotel next to the meeting point. It was easy to get on and off the boat. We loved getting to know all the coves and enjoying Cala Trebaluger. I have nothing but good things to say about the crew. They were all nice and very friendly. We loved the experience for the price! We would definitely do it again on another visit 🥰"
"We were a group of 11 people, 8 adults, 2 children, and a baby, and we loved the experience. We passed very close to Macarelleta and Macarella, and the stop in Trebaluguer was fantastic. Some dived from the boat, others went to the beach, which is wonderful. The tour is the ideal length for babies and young children. Everything is five stars!"
"Great trip, the beach was beautiful, boat clean and lovely staff."
"Great trip around the coast on 2 floor boat. Grab your seats but you are able to move about the cabin and go to the top deck if you wish. A couple of stops with info about the coastline and beaches and then stop off. During this you can exit the boat and walk to the beach over some uneven ground but isn’t too bad, have a snorkel or swim from the boat, use the slides or stay onboard and watch the fishes. Bring your own snacks or buy from the boat."
"Everything was impeccable, great value for the money, and a very friendly and attentive crew that helped create a great experience. Passage through the most well-known coves, with an excellent approach for taking photos. The 1-hour stop at the beach is the highlight of the visit and is well worth it. A great experience that I highly recommend"
"Great trip. Beautiful beaches, great snorkelling and friendly staff. We loved it."
"Great activity. I don't regret booking it. The kids loved their trip, the swim stop was very nice, and the crew is welcoming and really friendly. I recommend it!"

The Boat to Cala Macarella — Frequently Asked Questions
Why the boat exists (the summer car ban), what the runs cost, taxi-boats vs cruises, and the honest bus alternative.
Yes — two kinds. Scheduled cruises from Cala Galdana and Cala'n Bosch sail the south coast and anchor in or beside Macarella with swim stops: the Galdana glass-bottom run (4.4/5 from 685 reviews, $33) is the shortest, and fuller routes add more calas. Separately, small seasonal taxi-boats shuttle from Galdana — schedules vary by operator and week, so check at the port on the day.
Because in summer you cannot drive: Cala Macarella's access road is closed to private vehicles from roughly June 1 to September 30. The three real doors are the Torres bus 69 from Ciutadella (~€4.65), the 30–40 minute coastal footpath from Cala Galdana, or the water. The boat is the only one that also shows you the coastline — and the only one where the last stretch is a swim.
Cala Galdana — the resort bay next door with real parking — is the closest port and home of the glass-bottom runs; Cala'n Bosch, the marina 15 minutes from Ciutadella, runs the longer south-coast routes that include the Macarella stretch. Either way, you park (or bus) at a working port instead of racing a road closure.
The cruises anchor for swim stops — typically long enough for a proper swim to the sand and back, not for a six-hour towel encampment. Honest framing: the boat is how you SEE Macarella (plus Macarelleta and the cliff coast, from the angle the postcards use); the bus is how you CAMP on it. Pick by which day you want, or do both on different days.
The short Galdana glass-bottom run starts around $33; fuller south-coast routes with more calas and longer swim stops run $93–$47. Against that: the bus is ~€4.65 each way and the footpath is free — this site prices all three honestly in the comparison above, because the right answer depends on your day, not our commission.
The glass-bottom boat is practically built for them — the seabed show runs the whole ride — and the family snorkel route (4.9/5, 213 reviews) carries child-size gear. Swim-stop routes suit confident swimmers; for toddlers, the shorter runs beat full days. Life jackets aboard per Spanish regulations.
Macarella's smaller sister sits one headland west — from land it's a 10-minute path climb, from the water it's simply the next anchorage, and several routes favour it precisely because it's harder to reach on foot. If Macarelleta specifically is your goal, the boat is arguably the BEST door, not the alternative one.
Season runs roughly May to October, daily in high summer. Menorca's tramuntana blows from the north, which leaves this south coast in shelter most windy days — it's why the cala routes keep sailing when the north coast churns. Genuine blow-outs are cancelled with refund; free cancellation to 24 hours covers your own changes of plan.
No such thing exists — Macarella is a protected public beach, not a ticketed attraction; nobody sells entry, including us. This is an independent one-question site: how to reach the cala now that summer cars can't. The boats listed are run by established local operators and booked via GetYourGuide, our booking partner (commission at no extra cost to you). Access facts grounded August 2026.
