The Boat to Cala Macarella

From June to September you cannot drive to Cala Macarella — the road is closed to private cars. Bus 69, the Galdana footpath, or this: the glass-bottom boat from Cala Galdana (4.4/5 from 685 reviews, $33) that anchors in the cala itself. The three doors, compared honestly below.

The Experience

What the Boat Covers

From the operator's own listing.

Highlights

  • Discover the wild coastline of Menorca and its hidden places
  • Visit the most secluded beaches on the island
  • Enjoy a 1-hour beach stop and the boat waterslides
  • Go snorkeling or look through the glass bottom of the boat

What's Included

  • Insurance and taxes
  • Snorkel and mask (limited supply and with deposit)

How the Boat Day Works

Four steps from Galdana's jetty to the swim.

  1. Get to Cala Galdana

The next bay east — with actual parking and buses. In a car-banned summer, Galdana is Macarella's front door.

  2. Board at the Jetty

Glass-bottom hull, ~2 hours, the cliff coast unrolling — the seabed show starts before the cala does.

  3. Anchor at Macarella

Swim stop in or beside the cala — the last metres are yours, mask optional but recommended.

  4. See What Walkers Miss

Macarelleta and the cliffs from the water — the exact angle every postcard uses, because the photographers were on boats too.

Boat to Macarella — vs the Bus, vs the Walk

In summer the car is not on this menu: Macarella's road is closed to private vehicles June–September. The three real doors, priced honestly. Grounded August 2026.

One fact reorganises every Macarella plan: from roughly June 1 to September 30 the road is closed to private cars. Not scarce parking — closed. The three doors that remain: the Torres bus 69 from Ciutadella (~€4.65 each way), the 30–40 minute footpath from Cala Galdana, and the water.

This site is about the third door — and honest about the other two. The glass-bottom boat from Cala Galdana (4.4/5 from 685 reviews, $33, ~2 hours) anchors in or beside the cala; the fuller south-coast routes add Macarelleta, the cliffs and three more calas. The comparison below prices all three doors in the currencies that matter: euros, minutes and certainty. If a towel day on the sand is your goal, take the bus — we say so in writing. If seeing the famous coast is the goal, the deck is the best seat the island sells. And for the beach itself — sand, seasons, Macarelleta — menorcacalas.com carries the full Cala Macarella beach guide.

What Passengers Say

4.4/5 from 685 verified guests

"This is a highly recommended excursion. We did it with a one-year-old baby, and he really enjoyed looking at the reflection of the sea floor. The crew was super kind and friendly."

Andrea Spain

"One of the best experiences we had in Menorca. We stayed at the Galdana Gardens Hotel next to the meeting point. It was easy to get on and off the boat. We loved getting to know all the coves and enjoying Cala Trebaluger. I have nothing but good things to say about the crew. They were all nice and very friendly. We loved the experience for the price! We would definitely do it again on another visit 🥰"

Anderson United Kingdom

"We were a group of 11 people, 8 adults, 2 children, and a baby, and we loved the experience. We passed very close to Macarelleta and Macarella, and the stop in Trebaluguer was fantastic. Some dived from the boat, others went to the beach, which is wonderful. The tour is the ideal length for babies and young children. Everything is five stars!"

Maria Emília Marques Portugal

"Great trip, the beach was beautiful, boat clean and lovely staff."

Kerry United Kingdom

"Great trip around the coast on 2 floor boat. Grab your seats but you are able to move about the cabin and go to the top deck if you wish. A couple of stops with info about the coastline and beaches and then stop off. During this you can exit the boat and walk to the beach over some uneven ground but isn’t too bad, have a snorkel or swim from the boat, use the slides or stay onboard and watch the fishes. Bring your own snacks or buy from the boat."

Nicci United Kingdom

"Everything was impeccable, great value for the money, and a very friendly and attentive crew that helped create a great experience. Passage through the most well-known coves, with an excellent approach for taking photos. The 1-hour stop at the beach is the highlight of the visit and is well worth it. A great experience that I highly recommend"

Nuno Portugal

"Great trip. Beautiful beaches, great snorkelling and friendly staff. We loved it."

Emma United Kingdom

"Great activity. I don't regret booking it. The kids loved their trip, the swim stop was very nice, and the crew is welcoming and really friendly. I recommend it!"
